Mobile Emergency Communications and STEM Education Trailer
📡 Atlantic Coast United Radio Association (ACURA) is on the move — literally!
We’re thrilled to share that ACURA, your local amateur radio club serving Galloway Township and the surrounding South Jersey community, is actively pursuing grant funding to build a Mobile Emergency Communications and STEM Education Trailer — and we couldn’t be more excited about what this means for our region.
Why This Matters
When disasters strike — hurricanes, nor’easters, Snow storms or widespread power outages — traditional communications infrastructure is often the first thing to fail. Amateur radio operators fill that gap, and a dedicated mobile trailer would allow ACURA members to deploy rapidly, establish reliable communications, and support emergency management agencies anywhere in Atlantic County and beyond.
But this project is about more than emergencies.
More Than a Radio Shack on Wheels
The trailer would also serve as a rolling classroom — bringing hands-on STEM education directly to Galloway Township and Surrounding schools, community events, and youth programs throughout the region. We’re talking real-world science, technology, engineering, and math in action: radio propagation, electronics, antenna design, digital communications, satellite communications and more. No textbook required.
For young people who’ve never considered ham radio, this could be the spark that ignites a lifelong passion and a path to become a licensed Amature Radio Operator — or even a career in communications, engineering, or emergency management.
