Interactive Ham Radio Band Plan
Not sure where you are allowed to transmit? This interactive ham radio band plan shows the frequencies each U.S. license class can use. First, pick your license class. Then scroll through the bands, or type a frequency to see right away whether you can transmit there and in which modes.
How to Read the Band Plan
Each band shows a bar from the bottom edge to the top edge. The colored parts are where your license class may transmit, and the color tells you which modes are allowed. Dark gray means no privileges for that class. In addition, you can hover over or tap a colored section to see its exact frequencies.
Choose Compare All to stack Technician, General, Advanced and Amateur Extra side by side. As a result, it is easy to see exactly what an upgrade would add.
What Each License Class Gets
Technician: every amateur band from 6 meters up, which covers all of our local repeaters. On HF, Technicians get CW on parts of 80, 40 and 15 meters, plus CW, data and voice on part of 10 meters at up to 200 watts.
General: adds most of every HF band, including the new 60 meter segment that opened on February 13, 2026. This is the license most hams use for contacts around the world.
Amateur Extra: adds the bottom edge of 80, 40, 20 and 15 meters and the extra phone space on those bands. In short, Extra class holders can use every amateur frequency.
