Ham Radio Practice Exams
Get ready for your amateur radio license with a free ham radio practice exam. Pick the Technician, General or Amateur Extra tab below, and then start a full-length test. Every question comes from the official question pool that our volunteer examiners use. So when you pass here a few times in a row, you are ready for the real thing.
Ready to Take the Real Exam?
The ACURA VE team holds license exam sessions right here in South Jersey. First, check the dates on our Testing Schedule page. Then reserve your seat on HamStudy. Bring a photo ID and your FCC Registration Number (FRN) on test day.
How the Practice Exam Works
A real exam pulls one question from each topic group in the pool. This practice exam does the same thing, so every test covers the full range of topics. You can choose to see the right answer after each question, or turn that off for a true test-day experience.
At the end, you get your score and a pass or fail result. In addition, you can review every question you missed along with the correct answer. Then take another exam, and you will get a fresh set of questions each time.
Which Exam Should I Take?
Technician (Element 2): 35 questions, and you need 26 correct to pass. This is the first license and opens up local repeaters, 2 meters, 70 cm and some HF privileges.
General (Element 3): 35 questions, with 26 correct to pass. It adds most of the HF bands for worldwide contacts. You must already hold a Technician license or pass Element 2 the same day.
Amateur Extra (Element 4): 50 questions, and you need 37 correct to pass. It grants every amateur privilege on every band. You must already hold a General license or pass Elements 2 and 3 first.
Study Tips
Take a practice exam every day, and read the explanation behind each question you miss. Once you pass three or four practice exams in a row, you are likely ready. Also, new hams are always welcome on the Thursday 7:00 pm ACURA net. Visit our New Hams page for more help getting started.
